Senior Life Solutions: Providing resources for seasonal depression

Bryson City – The staff of Senior Life Solutions, an intensive outpatient program providing psychiatric services at Swain Community Hospital, will provide education to the community 8 a.m. to noon on Thursday, December 15 in the main lobby of Harris Regional Hospital and Thursday, December 22 in the main lobby of Swain Community Hospital.

Program coordinator Amanda Kirl, RN and licensed clinical social worker and program therapist John Stoeckel will be available to those seeking information on resources for seasonal depression and general coping skills related to loss and change.

Information about the Senior Life Solutions program, which is open to adults with Medicare, will also be provided during the information sessions. The program is available to individuals through physician or self-referral. Senior Life Solutions is designed to help individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, social withdrawal and the deterioration of daily living skills that disrupt one’s life. Treatment modalities include individual, group, and family therapy, medication education and management, and monthly appointments with medical director Gerald Travis, MD, a psychiatrist.
